What Central Heating Systems Do We Work With?

There are many different types of central heating system in use in the UK.

In some older properties, you may see the likes of oil central heating systems. And in even older properties they may use the likes of wood, coal or biomass.

In most contemporary homes, gas central heating is the system used. Some boilers also run on electric and more commonly seen are heat pumps, which extract heat from the air or ground to warm your home. They’re environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

At Widnes Plumbers, we have experience working with all types of central heating systems.

If you’d like us to check your existing system for repairs, servicing or maintenance, give us a call.

We also offer free quotes on the upgrading or replacing of existing central heating systems.

What Can Cause Central Heating Systems To Break Down?

Depending on the type of central heating system you have, the types of issues and causes of breakdowns can vary.

If you have a boiler, you may have experienced a sudden pressure drop or you may experience underheating or overheating of your water or radiators. These issues can be caused by pressure problems, perhaps due to a leak. Or they could be down to a faulty thermostat in the likes of a combi boiler.

It’s also possible to experience airlocks with central heating systems. This is where bubbles of air become trapped in the pipe, preventing water circulation.

Airlocks can happen to hot water taps and radiators.

Pilot light issues are also a common problem we see. In gas boilers, an ignition is required to spark the gas alight. A fault with this can cause a boiler to shut down.

In older systems that haven’t been maintained, it’s also possible for limescale and sludge to build up in pipes and the boiler itself. This can cause blockages and poor efficiencies. Regular boiler servicing can help avoid this.

This is by no means an exhaustive list but it covers some of the main issues we fix.
